In December 1939, as Poland was being torn apart by the Holocaust, Oskar Schindler, the unlikeliest models, took his first steps from Nazism towards heroism. Schindler was born April 28, 1908, in Zwittau, Austria-Hungary, what is now Moravia in the Czech Republic. Schindler grew up with privileges money could buy.He married Emile Schindler at nineteen, but he always had a mistress or two. He was born Catholic, but from an young age he inhabited a world of sin. He drank alot and was always gambling.There was a Jewish population of over 50,000. But when Germany invaded, destruction began and it was merciless. Jews were herded into crowds, randomly beaten and humiliated, and killed. Jewish property and businesses were destroyed. Oscar schindler felt sorry for them and wanted to do something about it. He wasted all of his money in the prosess of making as many jewish people to live.He used bribes and supplied germans with food, and women. he was also black marketing them.He made a list of over 1,500 jews to get out of Poland and he was successful at acheiving it. He died in Hildesheim in 1974.
